Kingdom Hearts 3 Fulfillment

I have played through the long awaited Kingdom Hearts III and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was worried with all the trailers that there would be no surprises left, but I was fortunately mistaken. It was a very satisfying experience. My favorite world was The Pirates of the Caribbean (loved the ship battles and treasure hunting) and my favorite keyblade, The Wheel of Fate, was from there also. That keyblade becomes the Highwind, a spear that serves as one of the games few Final Fantasy references. Aside from moogles, there were no appearances by series regular Final Fantasy characters. I was so hoping to see them, so I picked up playing Final Fantasy XV again to fill the void.

Back to KH3, I finished the game, saw the epilogue and secret movie, and picked up all the secret reports, so I have an idea what the next Kingdom Hearts game will be about. People not so dedicated to the series are probably dismayed that the series will go on. Honestly I hope the series drops the numbered title format and just has subtitles from here on out. Those always seemed to confuse the non-fans like they weren't part of the saga, and thus it was unnecessary to play them. Frankly, if that type of player doesn't get the story, good. I've seen one guy outright skip all the cut scenes. He must be so confused. The story is the best part! The game-play is great, but dang! How did he know what was even going on?

I'm over relating to people over games. I don't need anyone agreeing with me what games are good. This is my story... and they're not part of it. I like what I like.

So how close were my speculations?

  • Sequence - Pretty thoroughly broke the established sequence, as explained below. None of the worlds you visit become accessible, but you see some worlds only during cut scenes. Each world is pretty meaty, with 2-4 hours of content, and then you're done.
  • Starting World - I guessed Twilight Town or the like, but no, it jumps straight in to Olympus. Twilight Town was next. You don't go to Radiant Garden at all, outside of cut scenes.
  • Hub World - There wasn't really one.
  • First Circle - I was correct about those being Olympus, Toy Box, Corona, and Twilight Town.
  • Sub World - 100 Acre Woods didn't come until later, after the 2nd circle, and was massively smaller (three instances of the same minigame) and felt rushed.
  • Side Worlds - There were none. I thought there might be a few.
  • Second Circle - Spot on again, with Montropolis, Arendale, The Carribean, and Sanfransokyo.
  • Sub Plot World - The Dark World. You do briefly go there and have a couple fights as Riku. Mostly cut scene though.
  • Revisiting Worlds - There are no second chapters in each world as there were in KH2. Returning to them is purely optional, to find hidden things and such.
  • Castle Oblivion - You do go there briefly and cannot return.
  • Keyblade Graveyard - This is the last world you go to on the gummi ship, but not the last world technically. That one is [redacted].
  • Disappointment - No playable Kairi. Oh well, perhaps in KH-Next.
  • Overall Plot - I was totally wrong, and I'm so pleased that it is so! One surprise after another, and it was no neatly tied up at the end, with just a few threads to tease the series going forward. The Xehanort saga is over, but the next arc will be about [redacted] and it should be interesting.

Looking forward to it.
